VIDEO: Audio of final moments of flydubai flight
A recording of the final conversation between Russian air traffic control (ATC) and Sky Dubai 981, the flydubai airliner that crashed Saturday, killing all on-board, has been released.
The flydubai Boeing 737 crashed 250-metres short of the runway at Rostov-on-Don airport in southern Russia at about 3.50am local time (2.50am UAE time).
The plane was on its second attempt to land, having earlier declared a ‘go around’ due to the weather conditions. The pilots had informed ATC of severe turbulence on the final approach in the video are heard several times asking for updates on the conditions below 500m.

The plane’s flight crew sound strained and apprehensive as they prepare for a second attempt to land. Captain Aristos Socratous from Cyprus and co-pilot Alejandro Álava Cruz from Spain can be heard asking air traffic control whether it is safe to land.
The conversation reveals their concern about the weather conditions and visibility. According to reports, winds on the ground were moderate, but there were severe gusts to hurricane strength above 500m. It has been speculated that one of these severe gusts may have brought the plane down.
The flydubai aircraft crashed inside the airport's perimeter about 250 yards short of the runway. All passengers and crew were killed instantly it is believed, as the wreckage suggests the entire aircraft disintegrated on impact.
All passengers – including 33 women, 18 men and 4 children and – seven crew members were killed in the tragedy.
