DXB air cargo volumes grow despite DWC transfer
Cargo volumes at Dubai International saw steady growth last year with 2,506,092 tonnes of air freight passing through the airport, an increase of 3.4 percent compared to 2,423,677 tonnes recorded during 2014.
These results come despite the fact that all pure cargo operators have been transferred from Dubai International to Dubai World Central, suggesting the growth has occurred primarily through bellyhold volumes.
Monthly freight volumes in December totalled 218,408 up 5 percent compared to 207,618 recorded during the same month in 2014.
Dubai International has also retained its position as the world’s number one hub for international passengers with annual traffic of just over 78 million in 2015, according to a traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports.
Due to the growth of some 100 airlines, most notably Emirates and flydubai, annual passenger traffic at Dubai International grew by 10.7 percent to reach a record 78,014,838 passengers in 2015 compared to 70,473,893 recorded during 2014.
