United Arab Shipping Company has appointed Stuart Sandlin president of its North American organisation to spearhead the shipping line’s growth in the region.

Sandlin will be focusing on “improving the customer experience by offering a more personalised service and ensuring a deep understanding of individual customer needs”, according to a release from the Middle East’s largest shipping line.

Sandlin was previously with Hapag-Lloyd America, where he was senior vice president of sales and customer service and responsible for the commercial organisation.

Prior to joining the container shipping sector he held managerial positions with Danzas, BAX Global and Expeditors, and has a Masters in Logistics from Georgia Tech.

“We recognise there is a gap in high-quality service in the liner shipping marketplace today,” says Sandlin. “UASC aims to close this gap by ensuring our customers get proactive communication, timely and accurate documentation and invoices and swift problem resolution. By doing this UASC will become the high-service alternative in liner shipping.”

UASC chief commercial officer Uffe Østergaard added: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart to the global leadership team – his deep knowledge of the industry and strong leadership skills will play a very active role in shaping UASC’s global commercial strategy.”
