A driver in Saudi Arabia who was filmed crashing his truck into a hideway sign has been arrested by police, it was reported.

The incident happened along the Jubail highway in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and when a video clip of the incident went viral on social media police were spurred into action.

“Under cooperation between the two official sides, the truck was impounded, the driver was detained and the owner was summoned,” Ahmad Al Yami, head of the transportation ministry office in the Eastern Province, was quoted as saying by Saudi site Sabq.

“The owner and the driver will bear the cost of the new overhead sign in line with the rules and regulations for destroying public property.

"There is a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone who breaks the rules, and we urge all drivers to be careful, comply with the traffic regulations and preserve public property,” he added.
