The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) in Oman floated a tender for the consultancy services to construct a regional airport in Musandam and runways in Madha and Diba.
The consultant will be required to conduct his study on two stages.
A source at the ministry said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the first stage is related to conducting initial study on four sites and any fifth site to be selected by the consultant.
The consultant will be also required to consider constructing two runways in the wilayats of Diba and Madha and consider the possibility for eliminating all hindrances at the existing Khasab airport including breaking mountains to ensure smooth take-off from both sides of the runway.
The second stage is related to conducting a detailed study on providing weather data for the proposed site, preparing the master plan of the airport that will be provided with world-class facilities.
The scope of work also included preparing the estimated cost, in addition to conducting a study on the environmental effect on the region if the airport is constructed.
