Dubai Police are prosecuting a man who allegedly flashed his middle finger at a speed camera.

According to press reports, two men were riding on a motorcycle that did not have a licence plate when they were caught going over the speed limit on Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.

The passenger, reportedly an American, was photographed making a lewd gesture to the speed camera, 7 Days said.

The newspaper quoted Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, the director of Dubai Traffic Police Department as saying. “This is something that is immoral, illegal and rude, and it’s not the first time that it has happened.”

Dubai Police referred another man to the public prosecution this month after he was caught doing the same thing, Al Mazroui said, adding: “They have to face the consequences.”

He was reportedly surprised to learn that the man was on his way to Dubai airport to perform Umrah.

The duo have been identified, so although the man flew to Saudi Arabia that day he is being sought by police, while the motorcycle driver has been traced and put forward for questioning.

“Despite the motorcycle not having a licence plate, we are still able to identify it with our smart radars,” Al Mazroui said.

“The American [passenger] is a visitor and he made this indecent gesture in the knowledge the radar would record him.”

Prosecutors will later decide whether the two men should appear in court on indecency charges.
