Airline alliance, oneworld, is set to be the first company to sell multi-airline round-the-world tickets online.

The booking facility is due to launch in a few months, initially for the company's most popular ticket, the oneworld explorer, which enables the passenger to travel the world using any of the alliance's members or affiliates.

The new service will allow travellers to complete the entire booking process online, without having to contact any of the airlines or travel agents. The system means customers can finalise their full itinerary of up to 16 destinations for an all-inclusive price.

Oneworld's Commercial vice president, Nicolas Ferri, said: "With so many possibilities of places to visit and routes to take, planning and booking this kind of ticket can be time consuming- both for our customers and sales representatives." He adds: "Our new easy-to-use booking and payment facility will simplify the entire operation, saving our customers a huge amount of time and providing them with far more flexibility in planning their trips."
