Bahraini gets six months for flydubai terror threat
A man from Bahrain was sentenced to six months in jail on Monday by the Dubai Court of First Instance after he threatened to blow up a flydubai airliner and asked a flight attendant to have sex with him.
The incident occurred on January 21st on a flight from Bahrain to Dubai, the 68-year-old man allegedly approached a flight attendant during the meal service and asked for more alcohol.
The 24-year-old Morocan flight attendant told the court that she refused to serve him more beer as he was already intoxicated, at which point the defendant allegedly became abusive, threatening to blow up the plane if he was not served more alcohol.
“He claimed he had a weapon and explosives and would blow up the plane,” the woman said, adding that shortly afterward, he asked her to join him in the toilet to have sex.
The Bahraini man had denied the charges, insisting that he had taken some medicine before the flight and couldn’t remember what happened thereafter.
He will be deported after his sentence.
Dubai-based flydubai is primarily a passenger airline, but carries bellyhold cargo, which recently secured ACC3 EU certification, which will allow the airline to transport cargo on its new European routes.
“Continued demand for cargo services saw an average of 3,000 tons carried each month and revenue growth was 11.8% compared to 2013,” CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith said in an interview earlier this year.
