More than 44m people use Dubai Metro in just 3 months
More than 44 million Dubai Metro journeys and almost one million on the tram have taken place in the first three months of this year, reveal Dubai's Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) statistics.
The number of metro journeys has increased from the same period last year, when there were just over 40 million, but the rate of increase year-on-year is slowing, reports The National.
“The soaring ridership of both the metro and tram during the first quarter of this year is a strong indicator that these two transit means are attracting the attention of residents and visitors,” said Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, chief executive of RTA Rail Agency.
According to the RTA there was a total of 44,371,860 journeys made on the metro and 943,982 on the Dubai Tram in the first three months of this year.
“The number of riders travelling through the Red Line of Dubai Metro during the first quarter of this year reached 28,251,036, whereas the number of riders transiting through the Green Line was 16,120,824,” Al Ali said.
Diera City Centre Station was the busiest on the Red Line, with 1,830,912 journeys made, followed by Union Station, with 1,800,149, and Al Rigga Station, with 1,796,758.
Al Fahidi Station was the was the busiest on the Green Line, with 1,798,473 journeys, followed by Baniyas Station, with 1,624,902, and Al Ghubaiba Station, with 1,246,898.
Dubai Marina Tram Station saw the most passengers, with 249,196 journeys, followed by JLT Station, recording 121,041, while JBR (1) Station recorded 115,081 journeys.
