Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is bringing an electric bus to Dubai's Roads.

Liberty Automobiles has supplied the bus and will operate and maintain it during a trial phase.

“We have agreed with Liberty Automobiles Co. to operate this electric bus for nine months during which the bus will be deployed as part of our bus fleet at the cost of the Co. in order to assess the technical and operational performance of the bus as well as the efficiency of the electrically-powered bus operation,” said Al Ali.

The trial will begin on March 15, on route number 118.

Al Ali said the bus could cost 80% less to run than a conventional bus, although the initial purchase cost would be much higher.

The RTA is talking with two more firms with a view to bringing more electric buses into the fleet.
