GAC Logistics has renewed its contract to provide warehousing and distribution services to retail powerhouse Marks & Spencer throughout the Middle East.

The agreement was extended by Al-Futtaim Retail, which holds the regional franchise for Marks & Spencer, allowing GAC Logistics to manage the retailer's distribution centre in Dubai, together with the delivery of garments and other products to nine outlets in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.

"As part of our total supply chain solution, GAC manages specific orders from each store, which are processed and delivered by the following day," said Dan Hjalmarsson, managing director of GAC Dubai. "We also support Marks & Spencer with consultancy services on stockroom design, sale pricing, instore merchandising and even staff assistance during sale time."

Following the renewed contract, GAC is planning to develop its local warehousing to support increased pressure on Marks & Spencer's supply chain operations.

"We are already investing US$3.6 million in a specialised hanging garment system to support Marks & Spencer's future requirements in the region, with the necessary infrastructure to meet its worldclass quality standards," confirmed Hjalmarsson.
