DP World implements automated gates
DP World has upgraded its technology at Jebel Ali port in Dubai, with the new "Asraa" automated gate system being installed throughout container terminal 2.
Following the implementation, which was completed this month, heavy vehicles will no longer stop to finalise entry and exit transactions or obtain gate passes, thereby eliminating traffic congestion at the port entry points.
The system is also being installed at container terminal 1 to further improve the movement of cargo at the flagship port's container terminal gates.
"Asraa, the new gate automation system, represents a further step towards our vision of complete automation for the services provided in Jebel Ali," said Mohammed Al Muallem, managing director of DP World in the United Arab Emirates.
"DP World is determined to implement the most advanced technologies. By introducing systems that eliminate traffic congestion and eradicate a number of lengthy procedures, we can increase productivity at our ports and improve customer satisfaction."
As part of the Asraa system, a special tagging device with a microchip is fixed on a truck's chassis. This will be detected by sensors at gates fitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) machines to record entry and exit through gates.
"Our customers are our top priority. With the application of the automated gate system, they will have their goods cleared and shipped in record time, ensuring speedy and efficient operations at Jebel Ali ports," added Al Muallem.
