DP World Celebrates UAE's 43-year journey of success
DP World has celebrated the 43rd UAE National Day with traditional Emirati festivities for its employees, partners and friends.
DP World Chairman, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem welcomed, in the presence of Vice Chairman HE Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, Group Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Sharaf, and Mohammed Al Muallem, the UAE Region’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director, hundreds of employees and senior management, with their families and friends, at a special festival area in front of DP World’s Head Office building.
DP World hosted similar events to celebrate 43 years of success at the company’s other terminals in the UAE, including Mina Rashid Cruise Terminal, Mina Al Hamriya in Dubai city and Fujairah Container Terminal.
HE Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, said The UAE National Day is an annual occasion to mark the achievements of the nation and its story of success over four decades.
"We should feel extremely proud as we look at the tremendous progress our country has made, through strategic thinking, collaboration, hard work and the determination to succeed. The transformational change that we have witnessed over the past 43 years sets the bar much higher for us today as we search for new and even more innovative avenues of development and a sustainable future for our children and our grandchildren,” bin Sulayem said.
“DP World’s position today as the world’s fourth largest marine terminal operator is firmly anchored in this rich legacy. Now with the proposed acquisition of Economic Zones World, creating the leading integrated port and free zone in the region, we will move from strength to strength, offering seamless supply chain services to shippers and shipping lines, linking sea, road and air via the Dubai Logistics Corridor,” he added.
The DP World Chairman acknowledged another key development this year.
“At the start of 2014, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated our new Container Terminal 3 which is set to be the world’s largest semi-automated facility. T3 is a prime example of the way in which DP World contributes to our nation building effort by investing in state of the art facilities to support and drive trade."
“Once fully operational next year, the new Terminal 3 will take the total capacity at Jebel Ali Port up to 19 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit). DP World will be well placed to serve the port and free zone customers into the future, helping the UAE to continue as a capital of trade, entrepreneurship, arts, culture and tourism for a wider region of 2 billion people.“
The National Day celebrations commemorated 43 years of achievement through a number of traditional cultural displays, including local musicians, handicrafts, old souq grocery shops and a typical Bedouin tent, to showcase the UAE’s rich heritage.
