Swisslog celebrates sale of 1,000th AutoStore robot

Swisslog has reached a milestone of selling its 1,000th AutoStore robot, an autonomous robot that sits on the top of an aluminum grid as part of an innovative storage system, the company said in a statement.

The robot was sold to Competec with the aim of expanding its customer fulfillment capabilities.

“We’re delighted to reach this significant milestone which reflects the speed at which the market has embraced AutoStore,” said Swisslog’s product manager, Michael Heidu.

“Thanks to our automation experience, we’ve realised more than 35 AutoStore projects across the globe and continue to invest in developing further improvements to the system’s overall performance,” he added.

Swisslog’s Click&Pick solution, when utilising the AutoStore storage and retrieval system, was developed to provide optimal space usage, in both existing and new installations, while integrating to companies' existing business processes.

Heidu commented: “Swisslog’s Click&Pick solution integrates AutoStore technology with additional e-Commerce focused software and workstations.

"This combination of high speed workstations, fast pick rates and incredible flexibility has enabled retailers to maximise their operations and has helped make AutoStore a technology of choice for forward thinking e-Commerce players.

AutoStore uses autonomous robots on an aluminum grid to access products stored in plastic containers, which are stacked directly on top of one another. Fast moving items are stored in the upper layers of the grid.

AutoStore’s integrates with Swisslog’s WM warehouse management system, (WM 6) which manages and supports logistics operations and inventory management, and drives the controls software system.

“The growth of e-Commerce has been a major driving factor in the market, driving the need for new solutions,” Heidi added. “AutoStore has helped push back the boundaries and we’re delighted to have reached this latest milestone of market acceptance.”
