Cathay Pacific reports cargo growth
Cathay Pacific Airways has reported an increased of 4.9% in the amount of cargo handled in March 2008, compared to the previous year.
In total, the company transported 150,202 tonnes of airfreight through Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, which marginally lags behind its growth of 6.1% in cargo capacity.
"There was no significant peak before Easter, but demand out of Hong Kong and Mainland China remained strong," said Ron Mathison, general manager of cargo, Cathay Pacific.
"Yields remain under pressure, and high fuel prices are having a big impact on the bottom line of our freight business. However, we are benefiting from strong demand into and out of India, while our new twice-weekly freighter service to Hanoi and Dhaka has been well received by the market."
