Oman's railway to transform country into logistics hub
Indian companies will have 'excellent opportunities' to explore new businesses in Oman through setting up joint ventures for consultancies and construction contracts in the railway sector, according to H E J S Mukul, India's Ambassador to Oman.
Speaking at the Rail Exhibition and Conference, which opened at Grand Hyatt Muscat on Wednesday, H E Mukul said the national railway project will present Oman as the gateway to the Gulf, particularly for countries such as India.
He said, "Oman's railway system, integrated with the GCC railway network, will help transform the country into a logistics hub for the entire Gulf region. We already have been developing partnerships with the sultanate to position it as a gateway to the Gulf and railway project will add to that. "
"Therefore, Indian companies, in the railway sector, have excellent opportunities to explore new business in Oman through setting up JVs with Omani companies and forming international consortium for consultancies, construction projects and other works."
Highlighting the features of India's vast railway network, which is one of the largest in the world, H E Mukul said Indian expertise in the sector is available to help with Oman's ambitious railway project.
Under the theme 'Connecting Oman to the GCC Region,' the conference is organised by Silver Star Corporation LLC in association with Bangalore, India-based Nispana Innovative Platforms Pvt Ltd.
The two-day forum will address the latest project developments and opportunities, as well as in-country value initiatives across Oman's railway sector. The event brings together regional and international experts from the rail sector to discuss and debate the best practices in the industry.
