Cargo activity rises at Abu Dhabi Int'l
Abu Dhabi International Airport recorded a 16 percent increase in cargo activity in the first six months of the year, compared with the first half of 2013.
The airport's operater reported that 377,885 tonnes of cargo were handled from January to June this year at the three terminals.
The number of aircraft movements rose to 73,862, representing an 11.8 per cent growth during the period as against 65,072 aircraft movements reported in first half of 2013.
"The high level of traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport signals the strength of the wider UAE being able to draw in global traffic. It also highlights the strength of Etihad Airways’s growth too,” Saj Ahmad, chief analyst at London-based StrategicAero Research, told Khaleej Times.
Abu Dhabi International Airport is currently passing through a multi-billion dollar re-development and expansion programme to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 40 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed.
