Body of stowaway found on Air Force cargo plane
US military officials revealed this week the body of a young stowaway was found inside a compartment near the wheel well of an Air Force cargo plane that had landed in Germany.
The aircraft was on a routine mission to Africa and had made stops in Senegal, Mali, Chad, Tunisia and Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily before arriving at Ramstein Air Base, Gulf News reports.
Air Force personnel found the boy’s body on Sunday night during an inspection of the C-130J aircraft when it landed and the Pentagon’s press secretary, Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby, said the stowaway was a black male who may have been of African origin.
It is thought the boy likely climbed aboard in Mali.
Kirby said: “We’ll learn what happened here, and if there’s corrective action that needs to be taken, we’ll take it.”
The body has been turned over to German authorities and the cause of death has not yet been determined.
